An event floor graphic built for foot traffic
A floor graphic for PNTR and Budweiser, printed UV-LED onto Coreflex media. The floor is the hardest surface in any activation: it is the only graphic people stand on, and it is expected to look new for the whole run rather than for opening night.
What the job demanded
Floor graphics take abuse no wall graphic ever does. They are walked on continuously, dragged across by trolleys and cases, spilled on, and cleaned with whatever the venue uses. Slip resistance is not a finish preference here, it is a safety requirement, and it has to hold when the surface is wet. The substrate underneath is rarely ideal either: sealed concrete, polished stone, sheet vinyl and carpet each need a different adhesive, and a film that grips concrete beautifully may pull the finish off a coated floor. Edges are where floor graphics die, because a lifted corner is both a trip hazard and the start of a peel. And the venue almost always wants the floor back exactly as it was found.
How it was produced
The graphic was printed UV-LED onto Coreflex media. UV-LED curing hardens the ink with ultraviolet diodes as it is deposited, so it is fully cured rather than merely dry, which is the right starting point for something that will be abraded from day one. The print was then over-laminated with a textured anti-slip film, which does two jobs: it puts a sacrificial wear layer between shoes and the ink, and its embossed surface provides the traction the application requires. The adhesive was matched to the floor type rather than assumed, since removal without residue or damage is part of the brief. Panels were sized so joins fall away from the main traffic line, edges were rolled down firmly after application, and the layout was set to avoid narrow points that traffic would work loose.
