Double-sided banners printed in register on both faces
Double-sided banners for TC and Rogers, printed on Coreflex media. Printing both faces of a hanging banner sounds like doing the same job twice. In practice it introduces two problems that single-sided work never has to deal with at all: show-through from the reverse image, and front-to-back registration.
What the job demanded
A banner printed on both sides of an ordinary white stock will ghost. Light passing through the material carries the reverse image into the face you are looking at, and it arrives mirrored, which is more distracting than a straightforward loss of density. The second issue is registration. Hanging banners rotate and are read from both directions, often by the same person walking past, so a border, a logo edge or a horizon line that sits ten millimetres lower on the back than the front is visible in comparison. Weight is the third factor: a double-sided banner uses heavier stock, which loads the hems, the grommets and the hanging hardware more than a single-sided one, and any of those failing brings the whole thing down.
How it was produced
Double-sided work calls for blockout banner stock, which carries a light-stopping layer between two printable white faces so neither image transmits through to the other. The banners were printed on Coreflex media, cured UV-LED, with the ink set hard by ultraviolet diodes as it is laid rather than dried afterwards, which keeps the stock dimensionally stable between the first and second pass. That stability is what makes registration achievable: the material is measured and re-registered before the reverse is printed, so the two faces line up rather than drifting apart across the length of the drop. Finishing was specified for the added weight of a blockout stock, with hems folded and welded to double the material at the load edge, corners reinforced, and grommets or pole pockets set to suit how the banner hangs.
